The obverse depicts 'Three men in a boat' design with what appers to be the hull of a boat with oars along the side and above three 'figures' or 'sails' and a pellet rosette to the left of the hull. The reverse depicts zigzag thunderbolts and a line of pellets across field, Y-shape and uncertain objects to each side. An Iron Age silver quarter stater of the Durotriges dating to c 60-30 BC. The quarter stater is a Badbury Starfish type. The obverse depicts a five-armed starfish with lines of pellets between each arm. The reverse depicts a zigzag thunderbolt and line of pellets across the field, and an eight-rayed lightning flash with rectangular body to each side. Silver uninscribed South-Western quarter stater of Duro Boat Bird type, minted by the Durotriges tribe (Rudd, 2010, p.112, no.2208) dating from c.58 BC onwards. The obverse design is 'three men in a boat', The reverse design is a stylised zig-zag thunderbolt with a Y-shaped object on either side of it and two other indeterminate shapes, but the one to the right is referred to as a bird by Van Arsdell (see below). Rudd ascribes this type to the Durotriges tribe, whose territory was approximately the area covered more recently by Anglo-Saxon Wessex, centred on Maiden Castle and Dorchest…
