The object comprises of a rectangular sheet of silver sheet which has been rolled into a cylinder (now slightly flattened) and with one end cut and folded to create a D-shaped mouth-piece; the lower edge of the mouth piece being angled in profile. A fragment of a silver post-medieval whistle comprising the terminal end, 26.4mm in length and dating to circa AD 1500 - 1650. The tubular body is made from a single sheet of silver, which has been rolled to form a cylinder of circa 5mm diameter. These were attached to the leg of a bird of prey, e.g. a hawk, by means of a jess, so that the bird could be returned to an owner if it went astray. The spoon end is tear-drop shaped, c.18mm long and widening and thickening from 3.02x2.17mm beyond the twisted shaft to 4.62x2.07mm at the rounded opposite end.
