Object type: METAL WORKING DEBRIS
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Norfolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Piece of silver droplet or metalworking debris. It is flat, 3.3mm thick, and oval with one rounded end. The edges are also rounded, except for the end opposite the rounded end which is irregular and indented with sharp edges, probably caused by breakage at a bubble. All edges and faces have smaller sharp-edged depressions and indentations, probably caused by gas bubbles when molten. Both faces have small green patches as well as a silvery surface. It measures 13.7mm x 9.9mm and weighs 2.2g. Undatable.

An incomplete silver Fede finger-ring of uncertain date, Roman to Modern. Only the bezel and shoulders of the hoop survive. The fragment weighs 1.34g. The widest part of the artefact is across the bezel. At that point the width is 6.6mm and the thickness is 1.0mm. The bezel area has an extemely flattened 'D' shaped cross-section, veering almost to rectangular with the inner surface of the hoop being flat and the external surface only slightly convexly curved. From this widest part of the finger-ring the width of the band tapers, narrowing to the shoulders that increase in thickn…

A twisted strip of silver, the remaining fragment of an unknown artefact type. This fragment weighs 0.99g and has a length of 25.0mm. The strip has a square cross-section measuring 2.5mm x 2.5mm. The act of twisting the strip has created a decorative barley-twist effect due to the spiralling corners of the square shaft. The strip is curved, the bend almost but not consistently curved along the length, which reduces the curved bend (length between the two ends of the fragment) to 22.3mm. The arc of the bend has a maximum depth of 6.6mm. It is not certain whether this bend is part of th…

Description: An incomplete, unidentified cast silver object with punched decoration. The object comprises an elongated, teardrop-shaped plate with rounded shoulders tapering towards a broken tip, measuring 12.1mm at the widest point and 4.8mm at the narrowest. The break appears to be old. The thickness of the plate expands slightly towards the narrow end also, from approximately 1.1mm to 3.8mm. At the broad end is an integral narrow strip which scrolls into an S-shape. The upper surface of the plate is decorated with four rows of punched annulets running along the centre of the plate.…

Object type: RING
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Norfolk
Workflow stage: Published Find published
Silver ring with an irregular faceted and worn section. External diameter 24 - 25mm. Internal diameter 18 - 19mm. Thickness 3 - 4mm. Weight 4.2g. The ring is undecorated, without marks and not neatly finished and is therefore unlikely to have been a finger ring. It is very similar to many recorded examples of 14th - 16th century copper alloy rings possibly used to hang drapes (Egan, 1998, 62 - 4), or possible simple brooches or buckles. However, the degree of wear and lack of diagnostic features makes close dating impossible, although it is likely to be ancient and over 300 years old.
