A copper-alloy nummus, cut down from a larger issue, of Magnentius or Decentius dating to the period AD 355 - 361 (Reece Period 18). SALVS DD NN AVG ET CAES reverse type depicting Chi-Ro. Mint uncertain.
Magnentius and Decentius were usurpers under whom larger than normal coins were issued. In 354, Contantius II outlawed these larger coins, probably at least in part to damn the memory of the unsuccessful usurper. This treatment presumably would allow the coins to be restruck/reissued as minims.
A similarly treated coin is shown in Casey & Reece (1988) pl.VIII, no.148.
