An incomplete pair of copper-alloy Tweezers of probable Roman date, however a Medieval date cannot be ruled out (AD 43-1500). The tweezers are made from a single sheet of copper alloy which has been folded over on itself at a defined loop to form a sprung end. One of the arms terminates in an old abraded transverse break resulting in the loss of the last 1/3 of the arm. The other arm is complete and terminates in an inward fold. The tweezers are rectangular in cross section. There is a possible pattern on the lower end of the complete arm, shallow incised repeating lines, running …

Copper alloy tweezers. A plain strip of thick sheet metal with straight cut edges, expanded and thinned towards its ends, more so at one end than at the other. The narrower arm has an in-turned end; the end of the broader arm is now out-turned. The finder kindly suggests a Roman date, but there is scant evidence to support this. Suggested date: Unknown, Roman to Post-Medieval, 43-1800 Length: 34.1mm, Width: 9.8mm, Thickness: 1.2mm, Weight: 3.03gms

Incomplete, cast, copper-alloy tweezers, probably dating from the middle early-medieval period. One arm and the uppermost of the second arm, which is now squashed against the remaining whole arm, survive. The arms are of flat section and are straight-sided, flaring towards the bottom, where the horizontal end has been deliberately curved inwards. The decoration on the outer surfaces consists of a simple perimeter border - but only survives on one side of the flared terminal. From the looped handle to the terminal is a longitudinal panel of regular, single punched dots which finis…

A copper-alloy Early-Medieval (Anglo-Saxon) pair of tweezers, dating to AD 500-800. It consists of a sub-rectangular cross-sectioned strip of metal which flares at both ends. It is now misshaped by having been twisted and bent several times. The front face is decorated with a line of ring-and-dot motifs running along the arms of the tweezers and few more on the flared part. These kind of tweezers have been used since the Roman to the Medieval period; the decoration made of ring-and-dot motifs though, suggests an Early Medieval date.
