Equal-ended Irish mount dating to the 8th or 9th century AD, made from copper alloy with traces of gilding on the front. Each end is in the shape of a human head; in the centre is simple stereotyped interlace. Remains of two iron rivets.
This mount has been published by Susan Youngs in an article discussing Irish mounts of eighth- or ninth-century date found in England (Youngs 2001, 256-7, no. 7, figs 6 and 7c). It may originally have been used on horse harness, or on something like a box or a shrine.

Possibly a mount/terminal. The main decorative design is a horse head, with fine grooves illustrating features such as elongated eyes, and flaring nostrils. The horse has upright pointed ears. From between the ears a length of copper alloy, which is more narrow than the head and slightly recessed extends onwards. Beneath the nose of the horse is a recessed and incomplete loop. The reverse is plain and the surface slightly undulating. It has been suggested to be a vessel handle fragment. The object appears on the small side and not substantially made for that use, but is a possibility.

Openwork mount with lateral fastening loops, in the shape of antithetic fishes. Flat back. Rob Webley kindly comments as follows: 'Please see WMID-9912C5 now for a parallel and discussion for this unusual object type'; the object in question is considered as a probable late Roman zoomorphic buckle frame, to be associated with the more recognisable range of belt equipment figuring dolphins, fish and horses. Suggested date: Late Roman, 250-410
