An Iron Age uninscribed silver unit of the East Anglian/Iceni region, Bury helmet type, dating to circa 50 BC-AD 10. Obverse: Head right, sharply pointed nose, occ. pellet triad behind eye, diadem on forehead, pellet bosses in front. Reverse: horse stepping left, double upper right front leg, dashes for mane, tail of plain line alongside line of pellets, pellet boss below, above wheel, pellets either side. An incomplete, uninscribed Western British Iron Age silver unit, dating likely from AD 20-45. Primarily made from copper alloy but with silver plating. The coin is of a type produced in the late Iron Age period in the area of modern Gloucestershire, western Oxfordshire, and parts of Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Berkshire, Wiltshire, and Somerset. The Dobunni inhabited a similar area in the early Roman period, thus making it likely that they minted the coin. Obverse: head right. Reverse: stylised horse left.
