Medieval Coin: Worn cut halfpenny of a struck or hammered silver penny probably of Henry III (1216-1272), possibly of Henry II (1154-1189), Richard I (1189-1199) or John (1199-1216); short cross coinage (1180-1247).
From the fragment of the coin which survives it is evident that the moneyer was hENRI. Therefore the coin is one of the following mints and classes: London (1a-1b, 4-5b); Canterbury (6b2-6c3, 6d/7a, 7a-7c); Oxford (5b) or Winchester (1a-1a*). Unfortunately there is not enough information surviving to be more specific in the classification at this time.

A silver cut halfpenny of voided short-cross type. The crude execution of the bust, along with the misspelling of 'Henricus', indicate that this is probably a Class 4 coin; the moneyer is Willelm or variant; the mint is unclear, but the final two letters are probably 'WI'. Overall, the evidence points to this being a Class 4a-4b coin of Richard I or John, minted by Willelm at Norwich.
The coin is worn in places. It measures 17mm in diameter, 0.3mm thick and weighs 0.44g.
