The cut halfpenny of Stephen type 1, which has been recorded as EMC no. 2010.0235, is a coin of York, reading +[ ]ERVIC: on the reverse. The moneyer is probably Ulf, who is the only York moneyer in Stephen type 1 with a name short enough to leave space for the relatively long verson of the mint name, [EV]ERVIC. The annulet in the crown is an interesting curiosity.

The reverse has the voided short cross with a quatrefoil to each angle. The uncertainty of ruler is due to the moneyer RAV - most probably Rauf and the mint of London, which both Henry II and John have types. The balance of probability goes to John and type 6b.

Medieval Coin: Struck or hammered silver voided long cross cut halfpenny of Henry III (AD. 1207-1272). the coin is probably of Class 3 (b or c) type dated c.1248-1250. The moneyer is Willem and the mint is either Canterbury or London. Coin Reference: North number 987-8. There is some uncertainty about the classification of this coin due to the arrangement of the obverse inscription with the hENRICVS being very far round to allow space for the III which is typical of class 3 coins but also no room for TERCI as is found on some other classes.
