A silver cut half short cross penny of John (1199 – 1216 AD), class 5 a-c (c. 1205 – 1218 AD) minted by Gifrei at Norwich. The coin is 17.71mm long, 7.9mm wide, 0.8mm thick and weighs 0.57g.
This coin was found very close to a folded piece of lead with the imprint of a semicircle within the fold (related find SWYOR-6FBCB0) and it is believed that the coin may have been folded within the lead when lost.

Medieval coin: A silver long cross cut halfpenny, probably minted by Huge at Norwich, who was working there between AD 1247 and 1250. Huge's name thus indicates that the coin was minted under the reign of Henry III (1216-1272), and allows it to be tentatively classified as a Class 2 or 3 long cross).

Obverse inscription: *HENRIC(---)

A silver cut halfpenny of voided short-cross type. The crude execution of the bust, along with the misspelling of 'Henricus', indicate that this is probably a Class 4 coin; the moneyer is Willelm or variant; the mint is unclear, but the final two letters are probably 'WI'. Overall, the evidence points to this being a Class 4a-4b coin of Richard I or John, minted by Willelm at Norwich.
The coin is worn in places. It measures 17mm in diameter, 0.3mm thick and weighs 0.44g.

Struck in silver, this coin was cut to form a half penny. The coin can be attributed to a class 2a of Henry III due to legend HENRICVS REX T[ERCI] and the lettering style used, particularly the form of the X. The reverse of the coin is a voided long cross that seperates the legend ICH +HS, which would have formed the name of the moneyer and mint. It is possible that the mint was Norwich due to the surviving letters 'ich' in the legend. The angles of the cross contain three pellets. The coin has a dull grey patina, with some of the original silver colour showing through on the relief ar…

A worn silver cut halfpenny of Henry III (AD 1216-1272), dating to the period AD 1247-1272. 'Voided' long cross issue without sceptre (Class I-IIIc). The arrangement of letters on the reverse of the coins has made identification of the moneyer and mint difficult. The letters are OR(ligated)W / TON(ligated). Neither of these arrangements is listed in Wren (1993) however it seems likely that ORW is for the mint town of Norwich, and the moneyer is Jon, with the T being a misrepresentation of the letter 'I'. Jon struck through classes IIb-IIIc at Norwich, and the style of the bust indicat…

A silver cut halfpenny of probably King John (AD 1199-1216) - most probably fitting within Class 5 (AD 1204-1207) most probably struck by the moneyer Grefrei at with Northampton or Norwich. Due to clipping and also the coin being cut in half a more refined date is not possible. Looking at how the coin has been divided possibly suggests that it has been folded and has broken along the folded edge. The reasoin for this is the slight burring over of the break and also that the coin has been divided across the cross on the reverse rather than along.
