A medieval silver cut half penny of Henry III (1216 – 1272). The coin is a voided long cross. The shape of the X suggests it is class 2 – 5a and there does not seem to be a sceptre which suggests class 2 or 3 (1248 – 1250). The reverse is not clear enough t be able to identify the moneyer or mint. The coin is recorded from a photograph and precise measurements are not available.

The moneyer is either Ilger or Reiner. There is a pellet before the R of REX in the obverse legend and a pellet on each side of the copulative on the reverse. The legends do not appear to match the known coins of the Dublin mint and imitations of this time are relatively common. The reverse may read [ ]OIN - NDE, with N ligatured to the D - in imitation of the ONLV - NDE element of genuine London issues. Imitations often use elements of more than one coin when creating designs.
