The cut halfpenny of Stephen type 1, which has been recorded as EMC no. 2010.0235, is a coin of York, reading +[ ]ERVIC: on the reverse. The moneyer is probably Ulf, who is the only York moneyer in Stephen type 1 with a name short enough to leave space for the relatively long verson of the mint name, [EV]ERVIC. The annulet in the crown is an interesting curiosity.

Probably North 1991 Vol I, Type 4a, No. 968/1 and Wren 1992 Type 4a, both dating to c. 1194-1204/5 AD. Silver
Coin – Short Cross cut Halfpenny. Possibly Class 4b, early in reign of John (1199-1216), issue of 1199-1204/5.
Obverse description: hair – right – rendered as single open curl; beard treatment – in so far as visible – also appears slipshod. This may suggest Class 4b (Wren 2006, page 49).
Obverse inscription: NRICV[S]
Reverse design: Short cross, quatrefoils in the two compartments.
Reverse inscription: ARD.ON., with conventionally barred N. This may suggest moneyers Everard at York, or Ricard at London, if Class 4 identification is sustained.
