John Naylor (pers. com.) notes that there are cut marks on the obverse, which run along the same line as the reverse cross suggesting that the cross was used as a guide to fraction the coin. c.f. A folded short cross cut half penny most probably of Henry II (or possibly Richard I) . Images of the coin have been shown to the numismatist Carl Savage who comments; The bent Short Cross cut halfpenny is most likely Northampton rather than Norwich as NOR or possible NON (as the remaining rev legend may read) are Northampton mint signatures. The only moneyer the ends in R from this mint is Walter who was active during the reign of Henry II and Richard I. I strongly suspected this will be a class 1b or 1c based solely on the rev and the lettering also fits with this class rather …
