An early-medieval cut halfpenny of Aethelred II (978 - 1016), 'Last Small Cross' type (c.AD1009-17; North 777), mint and moneyer uncertain (possibly Aelfgar at Tamworth. Ref: North 1994: 160-1). The bust style (only the back of the head visible) belongs to North's (1994: 161) 'West Midlands' type. The reverse inscription [ ]LFGAR ON[ ] is most likely to represent the moneyer Aelfgar at the mint in Tamworth. Date: Late Early-Medieval Diameter: 18.38 mm Weight: 0.68 g Die axis: 5
