A silver Scottish coin; a voided long cross cut half penny of Alexander III (AD 1249-1286), first coinage, struck about AD 1250-1280. Probably type III, IV or V. Mint and moneyer is unknown. The legend is mostly off the edge of the flan. There is a six pointed star in each quarter.

Dimensions:
The coin is 13.9mm long, 7.1mm wide, 1.8mm thick in its bent form and weighs 0.43g. The metal of the coin is 0.6mm thick.

An incomplete silver medieval coin: a cut halfpenny of William I of Scotland whose reign lasted from c.AD 1142-1214. This is from his first phase of short cross and stars coinage so dates to c.AD 1195-1205. All that remains of the obverse is the king’s sceptre. The reverse features half a voided short cross, with each of the two remaining quadrants having a central star. The inscriptions on both faces are illegible.
