Medieval contemporary copy of a cut halfpenny of Henry III (1216-1272), Class 4a or 4ab, 1250-51, North 989 or 989/1. This is not a reduced silver imitation like thse produced on the continent which were legal tender in their own areas but a contemporary forgery in copper alloy with a silver wash which has mostly worn off. The forgery is crude with blundered lettering and design. It may have been made as a halfpenny as the upper and lower arms are formed of a complete line rather than being interrupted by the other cross arm as normal on complete coins.
