A worn early medieval cut halfpenny of a Late Anglo-Saxon king, Eadgar (959-75), Edward the Martyr (975-8) or Aethelred II (978-1016) of the post-Reform issues (after c.975), uncertain type, mint and moneyer uncertain. Ref: North 1994: 157-67.
The coin is very worn within the field on both obverse and reverse, with virtually nothing of the design remaining, and the inscriptions are only partial given its status as a cut fraction. The lettering on the reverse is worn and difficult to read in its entirety, the moneyer reading only [... ]OL[... ]with certainty. It may be GOL[... ], which could suggest the moneyer is Goldric of Stafford (possibly STAEFOR, for which FOR is distinctly visible).

An incomplete cut silver halfpenny of Aethelred II (AD 978-1016), a 'Last Small Cross' type dating from c. AD 1009-1017. The style of the obverse bust suggests that the coin was struck either at one of the south-western mints (see North 1994:160-161 figure 4), or at Winchester. North N777.
