An incomplete cut silver halfpenny of Aethelred II (AD 978-1016), a 'Last Small Cross' type dating from c. AD 1009-1017. The style of the obverse bust suggests that the coin was struck either at one of the south-western mints (see North 1994:160-161 figure 4), or at Winchester. North N777.

The coin is very worn within the field on both obverse and reverse, with virtually nothing of the design remaining, and the inscriptions are only partial given its status as a cut fraction.
