A gold post-medieval half-angel of Mary I (AD 1553-1558), dating to the period AD 1553-1554. Pomegranate privy mark. M and Rose beside mast on reverse (North, 1994(2): 1959). The coin has a pronounced crease across the flan, in line with the spear of the archangel. It has not been established whether the coin has been unfolded. A raking light reveals a fainter crease or dent line bisecting this, producing a cross. Diameter: 21.5mm, weight: 2.5g.

Cast copper alloy coin weight probably for a half angel made in Antwerp. The weight is square and flat, 13.9mm by 13.4mm by 1.4mm. It weighs 1.54 grams, 23.6 grains, this suggests it is either for the lighter half angel issued for 1604 to 1619 (maximum 35.5 grains), or the quarter angel issued 1554-1601 (full weight 20 grains). Coin weights are usually significantly lighter than the full weight to fit the legal minimum weight of the coin and also due to corrosion suggesting the half angel is more likely. The front has a raised design of St Michael spearing the dragon in an incuse circ…

Copper alloy coin weight, square. The obverse bears the hand of Antwerp (upright) with a "9"(?) to the left of the hand and a "0" to the right (for 1590), and an "H" below the 9 on the left. The H will be the maker's initial - presumably there should be another to the right of the hand, although this cannot be seen. P&BR Withers (1995) list two Antwerp coin weight makers with the first initial H - Hans Foncq., 1577-1603 and HW, an unknown 16th century maker. The reverse shows a crowned shield possibly containing a lion (?), with lettering around, possibly O(?)HO trefoil IRE trefoil ...…
