A gold post-medieval half-angel of Mary I (AD 1553-1558), dating to the period AD 1553-1554. Pomegranate privy mark. M and Rose beside mast on reverse (North, 1994(2): 1959).
The coin has a pronounced crease across the flan, in line with the spear of the archangel. It has not been established whether the coin has been unfolded. A raking light reveals a fainter crease or dent line bisecting this, producing a cross.
Diameter: 21.5mm, weight: 2.5g.
