A Post-Medieval silver-plated copper alloy contemporary forgery of a silver half crown of Charles I (1625-1649), Tower mint under Parliament, dating from 1643 onwards. The mint mark is the (R) which dates from 1644-1645 and the obverse is similar to the Group III half crowns, Type 3a3, third horseman with a vertical complete sword but the rider obliterated and an oval garnished shield on the reverse, Spink 2778. A contemporary copy plated and clipped halfcrown of Charles I AD 1625-1649. The core of the coin is copper with an external silver plate. The obverse is extremely worn and has been pierced. The unclear obverse would have shown the monarch riding a horse left sword raised. Only one hind leg and the tail of a horse, along with a sword can just be seen on the obverse. The piercing enters through Charles I who is sitting on top of a horse and exits the reverse through the right side of the shield. The piercing has also caused degradation to the silver plating. The shape of the bust on the obverse is discernible but details are not visible.
