A silver, milled, halfcrown of King Charles I (AD.1625-1649). Civil War issue, minted in York. Spink 2869 type 7. North 1991 No.2315, dated to 1643-1644. Lion mintmark.
Obverse: crowned king left holding sword above, on horseback with tail between back legs EBOR below, beaded circle surrounding, initial mark lion both sides. Obverse inscription: CAROLVS.DG.MAG.BRIT.FRAN.ET.HIB.REX.
Reverse: crowned lion skin garniture around oval quartered shield of arms. Reverse inscription: CHRISTO AVSPICE REGNO.

A post-Medieval silver halfcrown of William III (1694-1702), minted at York and dated 1696 on coin. Probably 'large shield/early harp' type (Spink 3486).
Obv. GVLIELMVS.III.DEI.GRA.; Laureate and draped bust facing right, mint mark: Y below bust.
Rev.16 MAG BR FRA ET HIB REX 96; Four crowned shields arranged in a cross with lion of Nassau in centre.
