A copper alloy forgery of a silver halfgroat of the Commonwealth of England (1649-1660). Only the reverse is now visible, depicting the conjoined shields of St George and Ireland with value mark 'I I' above. The obverse is entirely blank, either from heavy wear or perhaps an error during manufacture. Cf. North (1991), no.2728. The coin was presumably originally silver washed or plated to pass as genuine.
