An unusual gold coloured post medieval coin. In appearance, this is a post medieval three-halfpence coin of Elizabeth I, minted in London. The mintmark is an eglantine and the coin date is 157(3). This coin is only listed as being minted in silver but this example appears to have been gilded or coloured gold. Barrie Cook of the British Museum says: "Shakespeare mentions 'gilded twopences', whereby halfgroats could pass muster as half-crowns if you didn't look too closely.
