An early postmedieval hammered silver coin (half groat). The coin has a thin flan, and is very worn. It has been bent, presumably since deposition.
The obverse type and legend are indiscernible, while the reverse features a shield on a long cross (?fourchee). A fragment of the date sits above the shield, but most of the inscription is now lost.
On the reverse,a number 6 is visible above the shield, positioned as the third digit of the date. Though the rest of the date is missing, this allows the coin to be dated with some confidence to the 1560s (the reign of Elizabeth I), as…
