A Post Medieval silver penny of Henry VIII of uncertain second to third issue, dating to between AD 1526-1547. Tower Mint of London. Initial mark illegible or missing. The coin is unusual in that it seems to more closely mimic the descriptions of North Third Issue pennies, but the legend is more similar to that of Second Issue pennies. It does not match any North examples, therefore perhaps this is a mule of Second and Third Issue coinage. Most notably, the obverse legend clearly ends in 'SPI' rather than 'SPIA' or 'SPINA'. Cf. North 1991 Vol II, p. 112, no. 1808 and p. 115, no. 1854.
