Elizabeth I Threefarthings dated 1575. Initial mark 'Eglantine' Coins valued at threehalfpence and threefarthings were struck during the reign of Elizabeth I as a means of providing small change. By this time, the silver halfpenny was inconveniently small and the farthing had last been struck during the reign of Edward VI. A payment of one halfpenny or farthing could be made by tendering a halfgroat or penny, and receiving a threehalfpence or threefarthings respectively as change Spink 2571; North 2002
