A silver penny of Charles I (AD 1625-49). North (2006:163) Type 2270 with initial mark unclear. The obverse face is extremely damaged, particularly around the bust, while the inscription remains clear and in good condition. Oval garnished shield on reverse. Uncertain mint.
It is 12.9mm in diameter and 0.47mm thick. It weighs 0.47g.

A heavily clipped penny of Charles I (1625-1649 AD). There are severe circumferential losses to this coin. Initial Mark probably two pellets; probably North Group E. The obverse has an inner circle and depicts a bearded bust, with heavy mustache with double-arched crown facing left and the denomination mark 'I' behind head right; the obverse legend reads: CAROL[VS] [...] [RE]X. A struck silver penny of Charles I. North 2261-2273. It is very worn on both sides, making it difficult to read. Portions of the edges are missing due to old breaks, also obscuring the legend. The coin is pierced at approximately 3 o'clock on the obverse. It measures 12.5 mm DIA and weighs 0.35 g.

It has also has been pierced, possibly for suspension, but as there is no evidence to suggest that the coin ceased to circulate as currency it has not been put forward as a potential candidate for Treasure under the Treasure Act.
