William III (of Orange 1694-1702) copper alloy farthing 1695-1700.
William of Orange was born on 4th November 1650. He married Mary Stuart under Charles II's foreign policy. William and Mary ruled together from 1688 until her death in 1694 and he continued to rule alone until his own demise in 1702 following a serious fall from his horse.
The Bank of England was formed during his reign and there was a great period of re-coinage in 1696 to replace the hammered silver in circulation that was clipped and badly worn.
