A post-medieval copper alloy trade token issued by the City of Oxford in AD 1652. Although the token is mostly illegible the obverse depicts an ox crossing a ford within a shield; the arms of Oxford. Norweb 3665a-3675d. Such tokens were in common usage in the seventeenth century during the period 1648-1672 when there was a shortage of national coinage of low denomination. They were produced to meet local needs and are rarely found far from their point of origin.
