A complete copper-alloy farthing trade token of Post-Medieval date, AD 1666. The token was issued by Jonas Youle in Kingston upon Hull.
Obverse: JONAS YOVLE OF 1666 around crossed keys.
Reverse: KINGSTON VPON HVLL around initials and stars in the format *Y*//J*A.
The token is 15.5mm in diameter and weighs 0.8g.
This token type is referenced in Dickinson (1986) p.233 number 162.
Trade tokens were issued between 1648 and 1673 at a time when there was little low denomination coinage being issued by the crown. As a result traders and business proprietors began issuing token…
