A Post Medieval tin alloy "American plantations token" minted under James II for use in the American plantations, dating 1688. Obverse: James II on horseback, left, IACOBVS II D G MAG BRI FRAN ET HIB REX. Reverse: four crowned shields of England, Scotland, France and Ireland linked by chains, VAL 24 PART REAL HISPAN. This token was valued at one 24th of Spanish real, or one and a half farthings.

A 17th century lead bi-face token of Powell type 29 / 16 (names / shields) issued by Thomas Mayne, a grocer of Canterbury, dated on the token 1641. Williamson (1889 : 389) Kent no.590. Obverse: THO / MAYNE / [C]ANT in three lines, all within a scribed circular border. Reverse: shield bearing the grocers' arms with date 1641 above. Diameter 13.7mm, thickness 1.7mm, weight 1.6g. Thomas Mayne went on to produce copper-alloy tokens. A farthing in 1654 (W. Kent no.68) and a halfpenny token in 1664 (W. Kent no.67).

Post Medieval trade token, but the details cannot be identified. Trade tokens were issued between 1648 and 1672 at a time when there was little low denomination coinage being issued by the crown. As a result traders and business proprietors began issuing tokens as an alternate coinage with equivalent denominations of a farthing, half penny or penny. Such trade tokens rarely travel far from their place of issue and provide an insight to the trade of the time.
