A Late Medieval to Post Medieval copper alloy jetton dating to AD 1497-1521. 'V' monogram type inscribed SIT NOMEN DOMINI. Mint of Tournai. The reverse depicts a cross fleury with quatrefoils in each quarter. Mitchiner 1998, p. 240, nos. 732 - 734. ‘SIT NOMEN DOMINI’ (from ‘Sit nomen Domini benedictum’ – ‘Blessed be the name of the Lord’) The jetton measures 25.7 mm in diameter, 1.5 mm in thickness and weighs 3.8 grams. The circles each contain a quatrefoil with three fleurs-de-lys placed between. The three circles are within a larger pellet circle. The inscription is worn in places and incomplete. The reverse depicts a cross potent with a four petelled flower in each angle. The inscription is illegible. The jetton has been pierced. Similar examples can be found in Mitchiner (1988, pp 242-245).
