A cast lead pictorial token dating to the 14th century. On the obverse, a crudely stylised bird facing right with a border of rays (now fairly damaged around the edges). The reverse is plain and unmarked. These lead issue tokens date to the reign of Edward III (1327-77 AD). The token is in a poor condition with the edge broken in a number of places, therefore loosing most of the ray border. A parallel for the token can be found in Mitchiner, 1984 with a provenance of London. This has also been dated to the 14th century (Plate 8, Ref 100).

A complete but worn struck / hammered copper alloy trade token, issued by Samuel Lvdinton (of the Mercer's Arms), during the mid 17th Century (1660-1683). Both Townsend (1983, p.40) and Williamson (1889, p461, #155) has identified this token as belong to that of Samuel Ludinton, who was mayor of the City of Lincoln in 1647 and 1660. There was another Samuel Ludinton, probably the son of the former, who held the office of Sheriff in 1681 and Mayor in 1683 (Williamson, 1889, p461). This trade token could therefore date from between 1647 to 1683. Obverse: The Mercer's Arms Obverse l…
