A complete medieval or post medieval lead alloy circular uniface token, c. AD 1250-1800, Powell Class 14. The token has been cast with a raised design of a equal arm cross with a pellet in each quarter on the obverse and a flat, undecorated reverse.
Lead tokens had a wide variety of uses and were made locally; they are therefore hard to date precisely and could be medieval or post medieval in date. Until recently cross and pellet designs were thought to be contemporary with the similar medieval coin designs; however publication of moulds and double faced tokens which combine post m…

Object type: BUCKLE
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Buckinghamshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Medieval cast copper alloy single looped buckle with integral forked spacer. The buckle frame is sub-oval projecting out to a pointed pin rest in the centre of the outer side. It is triangular in section with a flat back and inner edge and an angled outer side. The forked spacer joins the frame at the strap bar. There is a central gap between the forks with just a narrow strap bar around which the pin would have been bent, it is now missing. This central gap widens away from the pin as the forks narrow and are also stepped in in width about a quarter of the way along their length. The…
