Medieval copper alloy coin weight for a groat of Edward I, 1279-1300 (Withers 1994, p.7 no.30). Length 18.62mm, width 15.37mm, thickness 3.34mm, weight 5.70g (88 grains).
This coin weight should weigh 90 grains (5.83g) and would have been used to check the weight of groats of Edward I 1279-1300 only - later groats (from 1351) were much lighter at c.72 grains.

A MODERN imitation of a medieval silver groat of Edward I (1272-1307) which was produced from 1279-81 at the mint of London, produced by the company Westair with the letters WRL stamped to the left of the crown. For comparison see: North 1991: 24-25 and Allen 2004 for information on the original coinage.
