A worn continental silver sterling imitation of a Medieval Edwardian type penny. This is a 'crockard', struck by John I, Duke of Brabant and Limburg, between 1267 and 1294.  The coin is complete but with some damage to the bottom edge. The obverse shows a crowned bust facing, wearing a chaplet of roses, inscribed I(..)ABA[N]TIE. The reverse has a long cross pattee dividing the legend with three pellets in each angle, inscribed BRV XEL [LEN] SIS      Initial mark: Cross. Mint:Brussels

A silver medieval sterling imitation penny of John I Duke of Brabant and Limburg, known as brabantini. Walt type, issued c.1270-1282 AD. As Mayhew (1983: pp. 13, 16) type 1a-d. 'Brabantini', which imitated voided long-cross pennies, date to the 1270s and 1280s and precede the common sterling imitations made during the reign of Edward I. This coin was probably issued in Brussels.

13th century Continental sterling imitation of John I penny dating from c. AD1261-1294. It was minted in Brussels. It is probably a Mayhew 40 (too illegible to assign a letter). The Obverse has a crowned bust facing forward and the legend reads [I DVX BRABAN] TIE. The reverse has a long cross with 3 pellets in each quarter, and the legend reads BRV [XEL LEN SIS].

Continental silver sterling imitation of a Medieval Edwardian type penny. This is a 'crockard', struck by John I, Duke of Brabant and Limburg, between 1267 and 1294. Mayhew number 43. The obverse shows a crowned bust facing, possibly wearing a chaplet of roses, inscribed [DVX BRA]BANTI[E]. The reverse has a long cross pattee dividing the legend with three pellets in each angle, inscribed [I DV]X LIMB[VRGIE]. The coin was brought to the PAS held together with sticky tape, and consists of two fragments constituting around five sixths of the coin.
