A Medieval silver cut halfpenny from the reign of Henry III (AD 1199-1216). Due to the shape of the 'R' being similar to that shown in fig.20 and the 'E' being similar to that in fig.10 (North Vol.I pg.219), the coin is likely a Class 5b short cross penny (c. AD 1205-1207). A cut halfpenny from the reign of Henry III (AD 1216-1272). The coin was a voided long cross penny. The 'X' on the obverse inscription conforms with Fig.4 in North 1994 pg225, whilst the 'R' conforms with Fig.17, which would likely make the coin Class 5c, dating to AD 1251-1272. See North 1994 pg.227 no.993 for a similar coin. The reverse inscription is incomplete, but it seems as if the coin was minted by a Henri. The only Henri who is recorded as minting long cross Class 5c coins was Henri of London, thus suggesting that the coin was minted in London. Obverse descrip…

Two fragments of a Medieval silver cut halfpenny from the reign of Henry III (AD 1216-1272). The coin is possibly Class 5d due to the shape of the crown and beard, thus dating AD 1251-1272. See North (1994) Volume 1 pg 227 no 994. The coin had previously been clipped since nothing remains of the inscriptions. The remnants uncovered have rough, jagged edges and are not quite aligned with the cross on the back, which would suggest that these two fragments were broken apart rather than being cut. They were found one metre apart from one another. Larger fragment dimensions.…
