Struck copper-alloy jetton, ‘stirling bust jetton’, Edward I: Class X: 1302-1307. Obverse: Bust in circle: border and pellets. Reverse: Hexagonal enclosing rosette (6 petals): border, pellets, plus 4-foil at each tip of hexagon. Fair surface condition. It measures 21.38mm in diameter and weights 2.4g. A probable copper-alloy Medieval jetton which has been silvered, possibly for use as coinage. The obverse bears a bust, probably of Edward I. The reverse bears a central cross with flaring arms. There appears to be an inscription on both obverse and reverse, which is unusual for Edwardian sterling type jettons which usually bear decorative borders on the obverse. The obverse legend is very difficult to make out as a result of wear and a loss of the silvering, but the possible letters ARONS... can be discerened.
