This series of jettons, with a pictorial obverse, is thought to be contemporary with the Sterling Bust jettons of c. 1280-1343AD. It measures 18.2mm in diameter, 1.3mm thick and weighs 1.95g.

Complete Medieval struck copper alloy jetton of French Shield type dating c.1400-1500. Most jettons of this type range from 2-4g so at 9.4g this item is considerably heavier than the norm. Ref: Mitchener, M. 'Jetons, Medalets & Tokens', p.224ff. The item is pale in colour which sugests that the copper has been alloyed with tin or lead; this idea receives further support from the fact that the item is heavier than average, the metal is relatively soft and a number of incisions have been made along the edge of one face.
