An incomplete silver early medieval anonymous Anglo-Scandinavian (Viking) penny, dating to the period c. AD 905-19. St. Peter of York Phase 1 swordless/two-line type (North 551), mint: York. Ref: North 1994: 116; Gooch 2014 (in Naismith, Allen and Screen eds 2014: 459-70). The blundered legends suggest this is a later variety of the type. A copper alloy coin that looks like an imitation of an Early Medieval silver penny of Aethelred I (865 - 871). Only half of the coin survives. The front shows a bust right, the body and arms interrupting the legend which reads [AE](Đ)ELRED[...]. The reverse is a lunette enclosing the top line of the legend which reads: MON / (M)AN(N) / [INC]. Compare North number 622. It is not clear whether this is a contemporary imitation or a modern replica. It has been referred to Early Medieval coin specialists and this record will be updated with their opinions.

A contemporary plated forgery of a Merovingain denier, dating to the period c. 675-c. 750. This coin type is illustrated and discussed by Gentilhomme, who notes that it was popular in Orleans and Poitiers towards the end of the Frankish coinage period (1944: p. 201). Diameter: 11.5mm in diameter; thickness: 1.5mm. Weight: 0.91g.
