A copper-alloy Early-Medieval coin, a Styca of Archbishop Wigmund of York, minted in Northumbria by the moneyer Hunlaf (Group C), and dating from AD 837 - 854. There is a central cross of Pirie type 1 on both faces. Diameter 12.6mm; thickness 0.9mm and weight 0.85g. See North 1963 vol 1 English Hammered Coins page 45, reference 196 and also Pirie (1982) plate IV number 382. Compare EMC number : 1006.0051 which has the same punctuation in the reverse legend.

A complete early medieval copper-alloy styca in the name of Archbishop Wigmund of York (837-c.50). Mint: Northumbria (probably York), moneyer: Hunlaf. Ref: Abramason 2018, nos 1056-62. The coin is chipped and parts of the surface have flaked away, especially on the obverse, but it is otherwise in good condition with little visible wear. The reverse is struck off-centre. Measurements: 13.31mm in diameter, 1.34mm thick and 0.91g in weight.

Compare Pirie 1982, Catalogue of The Early Northumbrian Coins in the Museum of Antiquities, number 411 - 418, though none have the same central motif or blundered legend..
