From the above description it can be assumed that this is a contemporary copy of a denarius of Macrinus (AD 217-8) (Reece Period 10), although the obverse legend when correct is IMP CAES M OPEL SEV MACRINVS AVG. It could be a silver coin mis-described.

A base silver Roman denarius of Macrinus (AD 217-218), dating to the period c.AD 217-218 (Reece Period 10), PROVIDENTIA DEORVM reverse type depicting Providentia standing left,holding a baton above globe and a cornucopiae. Mint of Rome. RIC IV, pt 2, p. 11, cf. no. 80. Die axis 6 O'Clock. The style and patina of this coin are unusual, however examination at the British Museum suggests it is a regular issue of Macrinus rather than a contemporary copy.

Unusual Roman coin: this appears to be a copper alloy core for a plated contemporary copy of a silver denarius. The obverse inscription does not make sense with the portrait. It looks like Macrinus (217-8), although the inscription is not consistent with him.
