A silver Roman denarius from the reign of Caracalla (AD 198-217) and dating to AD 213 (Reece Period 10). The coin was struck with the image of Julia Domna, the mother of Caracalla. VESTA reverse type depicting Vesta standing left, holding palladium and sceptre. See RIC IV Caracalla no.390. Obverse description: Draped bust right, hair arranged in waves and coiled at the back. Obverse inscription: IVLIA PIA FELIX AVG. Reverse description: Vesta standing left, holding palladium and sceptre. Reverse inscription: VESTA. Diameter: 18.58mm. Thickness: 1.92mm. Die axis: 10.

Roman coin: denarius of Julia Domna (193-217) minted in either Rome, Emesa or Laosicea between AD 196 and 211. (Reece Period 10). VENVS FELIX reverse, depicting Venus standing left holding apple and drawing out fold of drapery.RIC Vol. IV Part I, Nos. 580 or 646. The coin appears to be possibly a debased silver with a shiny silver surface. The coin is heavily abraded, which may account for for the debased appearence.
