Roman coin: contemporary plated copy of a denarius of Faustina I (138-161) (Reece Period 7). Uncertain reverse showing standing figure holding scales and a sceptre/spear. The coin has a copper alloy core which is covered in two silver discs which have been hammered together at the edges.The reverse does not appear to match the obverse of Faustina and is perhaps a mule.

The copper-alloy core of this coin is visible over nearly the entire obverse surface and approximately a third of the reverse; the copper-alloy is reddish brown in colour.
