A base-silver probably contemporary copy of a denarius of a 2nd to 3rd century ruler, dating to c. 161-235. The reverse legend is unclear, but might read [ ](C)O(S II) [ ] and the type is of Salus standing right holding a snake in her arms.  The type is known for Marcus Aurelius (RIC III, no. 216), Elagabalus (RIC IV, pt 2, no. 139f), and Severus Alexander (RIC IV, pt 2, no. 176). However, it is hard to reconcile the reverse legend with any of these coins. The obverse is unclear and it is possible that it is in fact the head of Septimius Severus which might suggest…

An incomplete, extremely worn silver Roman coin, most likely a denarius and dating to c. AD 117-260. Uncertain emperor and uncertain reverse type due to wear, though it does depict a figure standing left holding a staff, spear, or sceptre of some kind. There are sections missing from 12 o'clock to 2 o'clock and at 5 o'clock. The portrait appears to be bearded, which would suggest a date after Trajan (AD 98-117). Due to there being patches of the coin that have a light green patina, this is likely a later coin from the early Third Century due to the copper alloy co…
