Obverse: IMP CARAVSIVS P II II G; Laureate, draped and cuirassed right
Reverse: PAX AVG; Pax standing left, holding olive-branch and transverse sceptre

RIC V, pt 2 -
The coin probably dates to early in Carausius' reign, c. AD 287. It is a new variety. The end of the obverse legend is blundered, either representing F AG or AVG. A denarius of Carausius dating to the period AD 286 to 293 (Reece Period 14), PAX AVG, Pax standing left with branch and vertical sceptre. Unattributed mint. The obverse legend is likely to be [IMP CAR]AVSIVS P F AVG which equates to RIC V, pt 2, Carausius 719. This is the third example of this particular type in Sam Moorhead's corpus for the new RIC on Carausius, but has no die-links with the other coins. There are eight denarii with this PAX AVG reverse type.

Silver denarius of Carausius (AD 286-93) (Reece Period 14), CONCORDIA (MILITVM or similar?) retrograde. clasped hands. It is possible there is a mintmark but the coin is incredibly close in style to an unmarked piece sold at auction (Classical Numismatic Group 102, 8 5 2016, lot 1090). Although coins are both of rough style, only metal analysis will enable us to comment further on whether they are regular. However, this piece does have a slightly blundered and mis-spelt obverse legend IN(reversed)P CARA[SI?]VS P A(G)..

This coin is not published and is the only example of its type in Sam Moorhead's corpus for a new edition of RIC. There is a radiate with a MLXXI mintmark with a similar style Salus - Classical Numismatic Group - Electronic Auction 211, Lot 402 (3 6 2009) - but the denarius was probably struck earlier in the reign. This record will be updated when more research has been carried out. This coin is included in Sam Moorhead's corpus …

~~ Silver, denarius of Carausius (AD286-293), reverse type: EXPECTA(T)[E?] (VENI?), two figures, probably Britannia and the emperor, standing holding hands; Britannia also holds a wreath or patera. No mint mark, Unattributed Mint. This coin shares the same dies with Shiel, The Episode of Carausius and Allectus, p. 119, no. 9 which is the same coin that was sold by CNG, Triton XIV, 4.1.2011, Lot 817. There is a coin with the same reverse type, but a different reverse legend (V/M/NETOPA AVG - apparently non-sensical) in the British Museum (R 3512). This coin is included in Sam Moorhead…
