Copper alloy coin. Base metal core, probably for a gold plated stater, though this example was either never plated or has entirely lost its surface coating. The obverse derives from the wreath of Apollo on Macedonian staters from the Mediterranean world. The reverse design was not immediately identified by a trawl through the ABC reference book. However, it does comprise a haphazard arrangement of lines similar to the most discombobulated of Celtic horses to appear on the gold coinage of the Corieltauvi, though it would not easily be mistaken for even these. The most common local coins …

Copper alloy possible coin. Base metal core from a plated Iron Age coin. The surface texture on one side might suggest a wheat ear or wreath motif to the eye of faith, as appears on the South Ferriby gold stater of the Corieltauvi (e.g. ABC no. 1743), and curvilinear features on the other side could contribute to a Celticised horse motif. Were this identification sustained, it might point to a Late iron Age date, Hazelgrove Period 2 Phase 6 or Period 3 Phase s 7-8, 50BC-AD40 Obverse description: possibly wreath and crescents Reverse description: possibly Celticised horse left Diamet…

Copper alloy stater of South Western uninscribed type minted by the Durotriges of Dorset and Somerset in the first century AD. British Museum Catalogue Type: 2810; ABC 2175; Van Arsdell Type: 1290-1, which is dated from 30 BC to AD 10, but current thinking now dates them from the first half of the 1st century AD. The style of these coins derive originally from Gallo-Belgic gold staters which were copying Greek gold staters in circulation at the time, with the head of Apollo on the obverse, and a horse and chariot on the reverse. The evolution of this coin's design is: Gallo-Belgic C …
