A copper alloy coin from the Roman period, an As, or perhaps a Sestertius, probably of Commodus, dating from AD 186 (Reece period 9). Probably SAEC FEL P M TR P XI IMP VII COS V P P S C reverse type, depicting Victory, winged, draped, standing right, left foot set on helmet, inscribing VO DE on shield set on palm, but all the legend is missing. The edge of the coin is abraded revealing red metal beneath the patina. Probably RIC III Commodus 482, mint of Rome. (http://numismatics.org/ocre/id/ric.3.com.482)

A cast copper alloy coin (limesfalsum), copying an as of Commodus (AD 180-192) (Reece Period 14), with an unclear reverse. It appears that the coin was produced from a flawed clay mould.
Limesfalsa ('Frontier Forgeries') were first identified on the Rhine and Danube Frontiers. An increasing number have been found in Britain and recorded with the PAS Database.
