A post-medieval silver coin, probably a groat of Henry VIII (1509-44), second issue, York mint, with the initials of archbishop Thomas Wolsey omitted (known on one die). The obverse is very worn; no part of the king's portrait remains visible. It is 25.6mm in diameter and 0.86mm thick. It weighs 2.07gm. For reference, see North, Volume 2, number 1799. There is some copper corrosion on the coin but this appears to be on the surface rather than being a base metal core showing though a silver plating.
